Sales of smartphones to overtake regular mobiles

The push is on smartphone-compatible websites

It’s expected that sales of smartphones in the US will overtake sales of older-generation “feature phones” by the end of next year, according to the Nielsen research company.

Sales for smartphones such as iPhones, iPads, Androids and the BlackBerry will climb steadily over the next 18 months and account for just under 50 percent of total sales by autumn 2011, predicts a new report by Roger Entner, a telecom analyst at Nielsen. “We are just at the beginning of a new wireless era where smartphones will become the standard device consumers will use to connect to friends, the internet and the world at large,” he said.

With the rise in smartphone usage expected to grow, ensuring your website is compatible with the growing number of online devices in use is becoming ever more relevent.
