A global network of computers, estimated to be responsible for more than 1.5bn spam messages every day, has been terminated.
Microsoft has successfully won court approval in the US to shut down a sophisticated spam network. A judge granted Microsofts request to take 277 internet domains offline, which were being used to administer the spam network.
Microsoft has warned however that while the network has been shut down, there are still thousands of infected computers with the malware, and users are advised to run anti-virus software.
While users should always run local anti-virus solutions, its also important to ensure that your email service provider actively scans emails for virii and malware before it ever gets to your machine. If you are concerned that your email may not be protected in this way, contact eTailor for information about our spam-and-virus filters.
