Firefox going from strength to strength in Ireland

A recent survery by XiTi Monitor has shown that Firefox usage in Ireland has grown to 38.6%.

Firefox is an open-source, independent web browser that has taken the fight to Microsoft’s dominance in the browser market. Even though every Windows machine ships with Internet Explorer (now up to version 7), over a third of Irish Internet users are opting to use Firefox instead. Why?

Firefox offers many advantages over Internet Explorer; some of these are outlined below.

Security – while the recent release of IE7 has helped bolster Internet Explorer’s security, it has a long history of being exploitable, allowing malicious software to silently install itself on a PC and begin wreaking havoc. Firefox has been built from the ground up to mitigate against online threats.

Popup Blocker – Firefox includes a powerful popup blocker as standard (a popup blocker is now included with IE7)

Extensions – through its “extention” system, Firefox allows users to install and use hundreds of user-made widgets and tools that are easily incorporated into the Firefox program.

Why not see for yourself? You can install Firefox while still running Internet Explorer, and you can easily remove it if you decide to. You can download the latest version from getfirefox.com.
