.IE Registration
UPDATE: Great news! It is now possible to register .ie domains with fadas on vowels for the first time. Internationalised Domain Names (IDNs), allow you to register and use dot ie domain names with non-standardised characters. In practical terms, this means you can now register a domain name with a fada on vowels, as used in the Irish language: á,ó,ú,é, í.
The IE Domain Registry is the only place to buy .ie domain names and there’s some adequately strict guidelines to purchasing your .IE domain name. The reason for this is why it makes .IE domains one of the safest domain names to acquire. In order to prevent hackers, black-hats or whatever term you use from registering for Irish TLDs (Top Level Domains; the bit that comes after the domain name) there are steps required to prove you are entitled to the domain name. This also protects businesses from unscrupulous individuals from buying a business name and trying to resell it to them at exorbitant prices.
How to claim your business .IE domain name:

Nowadays, more people are purchasing their name for use in personal and business situations. If you are trying to purchase your name as the .IE domain name, you will be required to fill in the form received from eTailor and attach a copy of your passport, displaying your photo and name.

The .IE Domain Registry from time to time will allow for discretionary Domain Names. In these instances, you must show the domain names relevance to you or your company. Such instances can be other ‘names’ which relate to your business service/s or product/s. An example would be Cabury’s requesting www.chocolatebarcompany.ie, although this is not their company name but has relevance to products they provide and the IEDR may allow the registration of the discretionary Domain Name.
