As we are already aware Irish consumers are using their mobile devices more and more for online shopping and “window” shopping.
As Irish consumers are spending around €8.5m daily for goods online to foreign companies, Irish established businesses and retailers are looking to capitalise on those missed sales with a new ‘eMark’ symbol targeted to Irish goods and services.
You probably have already heard that having a .ie domain name is one way to show your company is Irish and based in Ireland, but now there is a new Guaranteed Irish eMark symbol.
The symbol will be similar to the Guaranteed Irish logo used by Irish-made brands, to help improve support of Irish jobs and businesses.
Irish industry members are set to reveal the new Irish eMark symbol in the coming weeks. With a consensus that jobs and businesses are being threatened by losses to overseas companies, this is more prevalent in the weeks prior to Christmas.
The Irish eMark shows potential customers and consumers that the online business is Irish to help influence purchasing decisions.
Michael McCormack from eMark has stated that the online retail market is set to grow to €21bn by 2017 and with the extraordinary increase in online shopping by Irish consumers it is an even more essential period for Irish retailers do what they can to get back missed opportunities in the eCommerce market.
“With a strong demand having re-emerged in recent years by the Irish public to buy Irish, this bodes well for the online industry and the eMark is here to provide the guarantee of Irish ownership to online consumers,” McCormack said.
“Our goal is to make sure consumers are informed about what companies are Irish and therefore this should lead to more people likely to choose those companies and ultimately support Irish businesses and jobs,” McCormack added.
